Photography is better when it brings people together.
Brunswick.life creates welcoming ways to explore Melbourne, meet other photographers and make thoughtful images in the places around us.
02 / The founder
Started in Brunswick by Séamus Spillane.
I’m a Brunswick-based photographer and the person behind Shamo.au. I started Brunswick.life in late 2025 with a simple idea: create local photography events where people could meet, learn from one another and make stronger images together.
It grew from wanting something welcoming, organised and genuinely useful—clear communication, thoughtful locations, respectful direction and enough time for everybody to make considered work. Model safety, fair arrangements and an inclusive atmosphere have remained central as the community has grown.
03 / The annual program
Two ways to join us.
Seven or eight carefully spaced events each year—enough to build community without turning every weekend into a production line.
3–4 each year
Free community events
Relaxed, social and accessible. Come with a camera or phone, meet people and discover a part of Melbourne at an easy pace.
Open to all experience levels
No pressure to produce or perform
Clear meeting points and event information
3–4 each year
Paid small-group events
Limited-place model-and-photographer sessions with a considered creative brief, more structure and time for deliberate image-making.
Smaller photographer groups and planned locations
Models, styling and a coherent creative direction
More individual shooting time
Pricing and inclusions published per event
04 / Made around Brunswick

06 / Our approach
Welcoming by design.
01
Respect the place
We move thoughtfully through public spaces and leave locations as we found them.
02
Respect the person
Consent matters. Nobody should feel pressured to be photographed, pose or share their work.
03
Make room
Beginners, experienced photographers, phones and cameras all belong at the event.
04
Keep it human
The point is connection and creativity—not gear competition, follower counts or gatekeeping.
